Postoperative monitoring of free flaps is critical to allow recognition of vascular compromise; early recognition is associated with improved chances of nap survival when salvage is attempted in an expeditious manner. This article discusses a wide variety of techniques for monitoring flaps (both experimental and practical) and the salvage of compromised flaps.
