摘要:
Objective. - Benign prostatic hyperplasia is one of the most common diseases affecting ageing males. The objective of this review is to update on new diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations and the relationship between BPH and sexuality. Materials and Methods. - We performed a review of the literature in the PubMed database and selected 25 articles. Results. - The symptomatic BPH is often associated in an epidemiological and patho- physiological perspective with erectile dysfunction and ejaculation disorders. Regarding medical treatment, and whatever medication prescribed outside of a IPDE-5 inhibitor which improves erection and ejaculation, we can say that overall sexual function improves one-third of patients, is stable for third and deteriorates to a third party. While overall surgical treatments appear to improve erection quality of patients, some of them (5-15%) will suffer after surgery erectile dysfunction, especially since they are diabetic, aged or if treatment (laser ablation or resection) approached the prostate peripheral zone creating thermal damage of neural structures destined to the erectile corpora. Conclusion. - It is important for physicians to open dialogue on sexuality to allow patients to discuss a complaint that is not always easy to formulate spontaneously. This aspect of the management of voiding dysfunction is even more necessary as some of the treatments offered are at risk of sexual prejudice and prescription must be accompanied by information on the sexual side effects.
