摘要：
In order for persons unfamiliar with the Western Cape to understand the various scientific and planning issues relating to False Bay which are the subject of current research, it is important to place the bay in an overall historic and scientific context. This paper outlines the history of False Bay and provides a general description of the bay and its immediate environs.
