ALTERNATIVE CONCEPT OF AN RF POWER-SUPPLY FOR TEV LINEAR COLLIDERS

A novel concept of an rf power supply for TeV linear colliders is proposed. The rf power source consists of a large number of low-power amplifiers commutated into a phased array antenna. This electronically scanned array transmits rf power through the air to the receiving array which feeds accelerating structures and is located in the vicinity of an accelerator. Such an approach, using serial rf amplifiers and well developed phased array antenna technique, enables one to decrease the required peak rf power by three orders of magnitude with respect to the traditional approach and, furthermore, to increase the overall reliability of the rf system.
