HEMISYNNEMA-MALAYASIANUM GEN ET SP-NOV

An interesting dematiaceous hyphomycete collected on dead rachis of an unidentified palm from Malaysia is described and its taxonomy discussed in this paper. The unique features of the fungus are its simple, caespitose conidiophores, mononematous below, synnematous above by convergence (to form what is designated as a 'hemisynnema'), the discrete conspicuous conidiogenous cells, and the solitary, acrogenous, distoseptate, brown, gangliar conidia. A new genus, Hemisynnema is proposed in which it is accommodated as a new species, H. malayasianum.
