摘要
A simple calorimeter has been constructed for reasonably quick and accurate measurement of enthalpies of mixing of binary liquid mixtures. A novel method has been devised for accounting for the heat losses that occur during the measurement. The calorimeter was calibrated by comparing measured values of the excess enthalpies of (benzene + cyclohexane) and (water + methanol) with those reported in the literature. Enthalpy of mixing data have been measured for three binary mixtures: (4-methyl pentane-2-one + 1,4-dioxane), (acetone + tetrahydrofuran) and (tetrahydrofuran + 1,2-dichloroethane) at 308.15 K. (4-methyl pentane-2-one + 1,4-dioxane), (acetone + tetrahydrofuran) are endothermic mixtures and (tetrahydrofuran + 1,2-dichloroethane) is an exothermic mixture.
