摘要
High static and fatigue strength and superior wear resistance have been developed in P/M low alloy steels by sintering at 1250-degrees-C, followed by carburizing, quenching and tempering. Improved property levels are attributed to the elimination of small pores, spheroidization of the remaining porosity and increased neck development during sintering. Application to the fabrication of selected automotive parts is described-rotor, cam ring, manual transmission shift lever, door mirror gear and shock absorber shutter. In the case of the rotor and cam ring, the low alloy steel replaces a high carbon chrome bearing steel and nodular cast iron respectively.
