SIZE CHANGES OF LATTICE-PARAMETERS IN SMALL PARTICLES OF PLATINUM, PALLADIUM AND NICKEL

摘要
The character and nature of the structural size effect in Pt, Pd and Ni are investigated experimentally and theoretically. By precise X-ray determinations a decrease of lattice parameters for Pt and an increase of those for Pd and Ni are established in highly dispersed powders. The effects are explained by an excess (intracrystalline) pressure (positive or negative) in a small particle, stipulated by electrostatic interaction between elements of crystal charge lattice.
