摘要
The United States is experiencing a growing opioid epidemic. Deaths from overdoses of prescription pain relievers, especially opioids, have risen dramatically over the last few years. Naloxone has been available for almost 50 years as an antidote to opioid overdose, and it has taken on an increased role in saving lives. A variety of dosage forms, including a nasal spray and a self-injector that verbally instructs the user about proper administration, are available. Every state has enacted new laws to increase naloxone availability. Pharmacists can monitor patient use, counsel patients about the addiction potential of opioids, and make naloxone more accessible to opioid users and caregivers in their practice.
