The Political Economy of Communication has devoted itself to thinking about the structure of property, the ways of work organization and the strategies to value capital in the cultural industries, whereas the analyses about the State have frequently stayed in a second place. This article recovers the Marxist concept of State as the expression of class struggle and explains how this perspective is taken up again by the British pioneers of the PEC as well as Latin American authors that combine the economic analysis with the studies of power relations.
