EFFECT OF INTRODUCING ALKALINE-EARTH-METAL IONS INTO THE SURFACE-LAYER OF ALUMINUM-OXIDE ON ITS ACID-BASE PROPERTIES

摘要
Studies on the adsorption of indicators with pK(a) of 1.1-17.2 have shown that on introducing magnesium (calcium) ions into the surface layer of aluminum oxide a redistribution of the adsorption centers occurs accompanied by a decrease in their basicity compared to the surface centers of Theta-Al2O3 and MgO. The composition and density of the aluminum magnesium oxide surface layer have been determined. It is proposed that introduction of magnesium leads to the formation of a ''surface'' spinel.
