NETWORK TECHNOLOGY IN SUPPORT OF VI AND P SERVICES - A STRATEGIC NETWORK TO REALIZE A WIDE-RANGE OF NEW SERVICES

To offer a comprehensive array of new services that are more visual, intelligent, and personal into the twenty-first century, networks must be substantially restructured to increase functionality and reduce costs, and to enhance their speed, quality, and reliability. Terminal equipment must also be upgraded to multimedia capability. This paper depicts an idealized scheme of how networks should evolve to meet these needs. More specifically, it describes the network architecture, and three constituent subsystems: transport system, advanced connection system, and operation system.
