This article is written as a primer for librarians on how to buy a scanner. It covers nearly every type of scanner used by patrons in a library (flatbed, document, overhead, photo, film, microfiche, and scanners to help the low sighted, and sets out criteria for selecting the best scanner to execute the scanning tasks that library planners want carried out in their institutions.
