SOUTH-AFRICA STABILITY AND COOPERATION WITH THE COUNTRIES OF SOUTHERN AFRICA

The European Union (EU) and the countries of southern Africa have been linked since September 1994 by a wide ranging cooperation agreement. rn addition to traditional development policy goals, it seeks to foster cooperation between these African states. Klaus Freiherr von der Ropp, Cologne, confirms that this endeavour can only succeed if, despite considerable adversities, the new South Africa can be stabilised and, what is more, the impoverished countries of the subcontinent can establish a frame of cooperation which does not lead to the predominance of South Africa.
