OPTIMIZATION OF COKE BREEZE DISTRIBUTION IN IRON-ORE SINTER CHARGES

Laboratory studies of coke breeze distribution in iron ore sinter charges were carried out with the objective to get sinters having metallurgical properties which are improved versus those generally achieved with a homogeneous coke breeze distribution in the charge which is being preferred for heat generation in sintering. The produced sinters were,subjected to shatter and reduction tests as well as to chemical and petrographic studies. Conclusions drawn showed that a concentration of the lower charge layer to a coke breeze of 10-to-15% by weight yielded a sinter cake having a higher strength and productivity than that of a relevant sinter cake having been produced from a charge with a homogeneous coke breeze distribution.
