The author compares two short stories ("The Adventure of the Second Stain" by A. C. Doyle and "The Submarine Plans" by A. Christie) that belong to the genre of a classic detective story and A. Azimov's short story "Noch', kotoraya umiraet" ("Night that is dying") that is a fantastic detective story. Similarities and differences of these two kinds of a detective story are characterized in the article.
