Nowadays, men from western countries are socialized in a contradictory model of masculinity which is a source of frustration for themselves and of injustice for women. This model contains simultaneously the democratic values of Equality, Freedom and Solidarity, and the negative values of the patriarchal logic of domination. However, the constituent contradiction of modern hegemonic masculinity is not easy to dismantle because, in its inside, another opposing shaft is hidden: the opposition between a democratic reason and the instrumental and mechanistic reason of the capitalist economic model. For this reason, the change of men towards egalitarian masculinities requires the necessary condition of the material development of democratic reason. This will only be possible if based on an ethic that articulates the principles of justice and human flourishing, encouraging men towards equality from the recognition of their rational and emotional condition.
