摘要
We provide the first direct demonstration of the three-dimensional vibrational motion of hydrogen monoatomically chemisorbed at the bridge sites on a well defined W(001) surface in beta-1 phase, by the Doppler broadening in the narrow resonance of the H-1(15H, alpha-gamma)C-12 (E(res) = 6.385 MeV) reaction. The beam-incident angle (theta) dependence of the Doppler width shows that the mean square of momentum <p2> of vibrating hydrogen on the surface takes the maximum at theta = 15-degrees. We propose a possible model that the bridge plane leans away from the axis perpendicular to the surface due to the interaction between the hydrogen atoms opposite to each other.
