A study of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in Croatia

History epidemiology, possible etiologic factors, operationalized diagnostic criteria anal variations of clinical presentations of ADHD are reviewed in this article. Recent data from various authors and studies conducted in New Zealand, Mexico, China and South Africa are compared to the results of the analysis of 92 ADHD children hospitalized in Jankomir Hospital (Republic of Croatia) from 1990 till 1992. This was the first study of ADHD in Croatia. The continuation of the study with a larger sample is suggested, with special consideration focused on cultural differences, subtypes of clinical presentation, possible genetic or other etiologic factors and special treatment for parents of ADHD children.
