Genetics for speed of germination (germination rate) under laboratory conditions was studied using six generations (P-1, P-2, F-1, F-2, BC1, BC2) of the cross E100Y x E100Ym. There were apparent differences in speed of germination and shoot length. The chi-square values for F-2 and test cross showed a good fit for 3:1 and 1:1 ratios, respectively. It was inferred that differences were controlled by a single gene with normal germination being dominant over slow germination. The gene symbols were proposed as SgSg for the dominant allele and sgsg for the recessive allele.
