BUSINESS PROCESS REENGINEERING - INFORMATION-SYSTEMS OPPORTUNITY OR CHALLENGE

Business process re-engineering (BPR) is a relatively new concept. Information systems and technology (IS/T) is an essential BPR component. Some would argue that IS/T enables BPR. Others would argue the opposite. Whichever viewpoint is correct, and there is truth in both, BPR brings with it many opportunities and challenges for the information systems profession. To take advantage of these opportunities and respond to these challenges perhaps IS/T should consider re-engineering itself. To help contemplate the possible outcome of such a re-engineering exercise, we could consider one aspect of it - namely, integrating IS/T into the business and integrating the various aspects of IS/T itself.
