GAMMA-MINIBAND AND X-MINIBAND STRUCTURE IN GAAS-ALAS SHORT-PERIOD SUPERLATTICES

摘要
In this work, we present a review of our recent study [Phys. Rev. Lett. 63 (1989) 2284] of the anisotropy in the bandstructure of a strongly coupled GaAsAlAs superlattice by the application of a magnetic field. We report the observation of hybridisation of the zone centre Γ-state with zone folded X-states in the superlattice dispersion, which is demonstrated by the presence of an energy gap in the Landau level diagram for cyclotron motion through the layers. A simple model is developed to treat Γ-X mixing at interfaces in the envelope function approximation and the observed mixing strength is examined in terms of theoretical predictions. © 1990.
