IS DNA ANEUPLOIDY AN EARLY MARKER OF RISK OF MALIGNANT CHANGE IN COLORECTAL POLYPS

The frequency of DNA content abnormalities (DNA aneuploidy) from 121 colorectal polyps resected on endoscopy, has been assessed by flow cytometry. DNA aneuploidy has been compared to the prognostic markers of malignant change. It was present in 16.6 % of polypi and correlated with size and dysplasia degree. It was also present in polypi of average size and of low grade dysplasia. Thus in some instances, DNA aneuploidy could be used as an early marker of risk of malignant change in addition to conventional histopathological factors.
