An investigation is presented of the role of Pauli enhancement of a paramagnetic host on magnetic ordering of substitutional metallic spin-glass alloys, with particular emphasis on the effect on the critical concentration separating spin-glass and periodic order. It is shown that, although the energetics driving ordering are enhanced for both types of order, a strong host enhancement at a particular wave-vector reflects itself in a strong preference for periodic order corresponding to that wave-vector. This result is in accord with experimental findings on Pd-Fe and has interesting implications for yttrium and its rare-earth alloys.
