Multicomponent seismic recordings are currently being analyzed in an attempt to improve conventional P-wave sections and to find and use rock properties associated with shear waves. With greater interest in the recording and interpretation of shear waves, various acquisition geometries have been used. A straightforward mapping procedure has been outlined and called the VSPCCP map (due to its similarity with the previous VSPCDP map). This method provides a converted-wave image using a horizontally layered background medium and RMS velocities. A straightforward and fast method has been developed to invert the converted-wave reflectivity section. This technique uses a simplified representation of P-SV reflectivity and a macroscopic P- and S-wave velocity model to produce S-wave pseudovelocity sections.
