EXTRACTION-SPECTROPHOTOMETRIC DETERMINATION OF MERCURY(II) WITH TETRAZOLVIOLET

An extraction spectrophotometric study of the bromide and iodide complexes of Hg(II) with Tetrazolviolet [TV, 2,5-diphenyl-3-(l-naphthyl)tetrazolium chloride] was carried out. The optimal conditions for extraction of both ion-associates TV[HgBr3] and TV[HgI3] were determined. The effect of the reagent and the complexing halide anion upon completness of extraction of Hg(II) at optimal acidity was studied. Under these conditions the acidocomplexes of HS(II) interact with tetrazolviolet in the ratio 1:1. The molar absorptivities of the extracts of bromide and iodide acidocomplexes of mercury(II) with Tetrazolviolet are 1x10(6) and 1.02x10(5) 1 mol(-1)cm(-1), respectively. The developed method was used for determination of mercury in soils.
