IMPROVED CLINICAL EXAMINATION OF ORNAMENTAL FISH

Aquaristics and keeping of ornamental fish in ponds has become more and more popular in recent years. A suitable method for diagnosis of clinically important parasites in the living animal has up to now not been available. For this reason a method has been developed which yields reliable diagnostic results in the tranquilized animal through skin and gill scrapings, and flushings of stomach and intestines. Hence, it is possible to initiate specific treatment. Since most of the endo- and ectoparasites of fish are optional pathogens, diagnosis and therapy must always be accompanied by a thorough review of the keeping and feeding of the animals as well as client counselling.
