HYDROGEN POTENTIAL IN BETA-V2H STUDIED BY DEEP INELASTIC NEUTRON-SCATTERING

摘要
Two complementary techniques of deep inelastic neutron scattering were used to study hydrogen in beta-V2H. (i) By means of neutron vibrational spectroscopy we measured hydrogen vibrations up to the fourteenth order; from these data we derived the effective single-particle potential, the shape of which is a parabola with a flattened bottom, and the hydrogen wave functions. (ii) By means of neutron Compton scattering we determined the kinetic energy of the hydrogen; the value agrees with that calculated from the vibrational ground-state wave function.
