INGRESS OF WATER INTO A LIQUID LEAD-BISMUTH ALLOY OF A NEUTRON SOURCE

摘要
An incident is investigated and modelled which could occur after rupture of a cooling pipe in a spallation neutron source with liquid lead-bismuth alloy. Water penetrates into the alloy, evaporates and causes a pressure rise which could en-danger the structure enclosing the alloy. Pressures and velocities are calculated as functions of time. The resulting maximum pressure is considerable but it can be controlled.
