ENZYMATIC-ACTIVITIES IN THE SALIVA OF LARVAE OF THE GALL MIDGE APHIDOLETES-APHIDIMYZA (DIPTERA, CECIDOMYIIDAE)

Enzymatic activities of the salivary glands of A. aphidimyza larvae were assessed from the analyses of whole head protein extracts. Esterase, phosphatase and leucinaminopeptidase activities were demonstrated after protein separation by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, while spectrophotometric determination revealed high activities of acid phosphatase and 2-naphthylacetate splitting esterase. No protease activity was found. The importance of identified enzymes for A. aphidimyza prey intoxication and digestion is discussed.
