Syntax and Prosody: Syntactic Analysis of Discourse Units

摘要：

This study introduces syntactic analysis of segments delimited prosodically taken from an oral corpus acoustically analyzed in Mora, Martinez, and Dominguez (2009). Through syntactic analysis it was found that intonation units (IU) tend to delimit an information unit equivalent to a clause (whether dependent or independent). Also, a high number of IUs of the corpus seem not to be functionally related with sentences in context -this does not mean that these units may be functional in larger contexts-. Some IUs not delimiting information units were found in corpus data. Among these IUs there are discourse markers and units having a sort of oral planning.
