摘要
The english term engagement when used in spanish written texts, is usually associated to commitment or to allegiance, but there is no consensus about the exact definition and nature of it. albeit its widespread use throughout marketing and business documents, scientific papers, and releases. This article walks away from those traditional approaches to enter into a new, although less known, dimension, that of the field of the Armed Forces, where the use in spanish of this english word acquires a totally different meaning, so much, in fact, as to redefine new policies in the following cases: the employment of force by the UN; for humanitarian help missions; for disaster relief; for search and rescue operations; for the evacuation of non-combat civilian population; for military support to civil authorities; for the implementation of sanctions and trade embargos; for operations to show military power and potential use of force; and for border protection.
