摘要
Quantitative assessment of generating capacity adequacy is one of the basic procedures taught in a graduate or undergraduate class on power system reliability. This assessment is usually done using analytical techniques. It can, however, be performed using Monte Carlo simulation, which can include important additional parameters not available in the analytical approaches. The results can prove useful in teaching generating capacity reliability evaluation and in obtaining a physical appreciation of the indices derived by analytical techniques. This paper presents a range of generating capacity adequacy studies for a small educational reliability test system RBTS based on Monte Carlo simulation. The results are complementary to those calculated by conventional analytical methods.
