The relationship of remarriage to post-divorce co-parenting

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between remarriage and indicators of post-divorce co-parenting. A sample of 372 women and 277 men contacted three years after their divorce was used. Marital status was a statistically significant predictor for eight of the twelve regression analyses that were conducted for the women and men. The regression equations indicated that remarriage was associated with less frequent co-parental interaction, less reported parenting support from the former spouse, and more negative attitudes about the other parent for both women and men; less parenting satisfaction and lower levels of involvement in children's activities for remarried men. These findings are discussed and the relationship between remarriage and post-divorce co-parenting is explored.
