The objective of the present study was to determine whether boehmite could be controllably transformed by nucleating the alpha -alumina transformation with gamma -Al//2O//3 seed particles. For this experiment, a specific gamma -alumina powder was chosen because it was known to transform to alpha -Al//2O//3 at a lower temperature than the boehmite. Factors influencing the controlled transformation by gamma -Al//2O//3 seeding and its effect on densification are reported.
