摘要
This paper contains an introduction to the fundamentals of gravitational waves and their relevance to astronomy. No previous knowledge of general relativity is assumed, but the reader should be familiar with elementary astronomy and physics. The discussion includes conceptual and physical aspects of gravitational waves, astronomical evidence that they really exist, how they are detected, and what can be learned from gravitational-wave observations.
