BRIGHT LIGHT THERAPY MAY BE A THERAPEUTIC OPTION FOR TOURETTE'S SYNDROME

This is the first report illustrating the clinical efficacy of Bright Light Therapy (BLT) for Tourette's syndrome. The etiopathogenesis of Gilles de la Tourette's syndrome has not been ascertained, but the frontal-subcortical neural pathways seem to be involved. The syndrome is frequently associated with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and behavior problems. The efficacy of BLT was observed in two 15-yearold male patients 4 years after the onset of the syndrome, which occurred with involuntary, repetitive muscle movements and vocalizations. The results suggest that its effect is slightly superior to that of the placebo.
