A 25-item survey was conducted on 32 journals devoted to onomastics, the science of names, to evaluate content, editorial policy, being indexed/abstracted and other pertinent information. Returns from 14 countries indicate that English is widely accepted as a language or publication (18 journals as a main language, 6 additional as an acceptable language; Ulrich's International Periodicals Index lists 14 of the journals; Onoma indexes 24; and the MLA International Bibliography 14. Only nine journals are abstracted, some by more than one service. Suggestions are made for increasing the level of retrievability of articles in onomastics journals.
