摘要
Aim: Increasing rates of overdiagnosis and overtreatment with the widespread performance of PSA screening and prostate biopsies, active surveillance is gaining acceptance as an alternative management strategy for men with newly diagnosed, low risked localized prostate cancer. Active surveillance strategy for localized prostate cancer are rewied regarding the presenting studies. New Findings: In the current series, active surveillance strategy reported to achieve the prostate cancer specific survival between 97 and 100%. Because of the low volume series and relatively short follow-up, little is known about the outcome of radical surgery after being followed on active surveillance in low risk, localized prostate cancer patients. Conclusions: The results of the current studies are promising but one should remember the relatively short follow-up periods of these studies. Patients with low risk localized disease must be informed about this alternative during the tratment planning.
