Although a number of reactions take place in the Ni-rich Ni-Al alloys when they are aged, the B2 62at% Ni alloy exhibits, as quenched, distortions which are almost pure shear in character. It is demonstrated that, for this state, the streaking in electron diffraction patterns can be related directly both to the image modulations and to the form of the diffracted intensity observed and to be expected for such shear wave modulations which are of {110} <(1)over bar 10> type.
