摘要
The tradeoffs between the bandwidth-length product, drive voltage-length product and optical insertion loss of guided-wave phase modulators butt-coupled to single-mode fibers are shown. The calculations for Ti-diffused LiNbO//3 waveguides show the expected dependence of the drive voltage and the insertion loss on the near-field spot size of the guided mode. The minimum drive voltage is realized for c-cut crystals with asymmetric coplanar electrodes and TM excitation.
