摘要
The present research estimates gender-based salary discrimination within gender-mixed occupational labor markets. Using the 1983 Israeli Census, the income gap between salaried men and women is decomposed into the "legitimate" and the "unexplained" portions in each of 150 detailed gender-mixed occupational labor markets. The data analysis reveals that the estimated gender-based market discrimination is apparent and substantial within detailed occupations. Furthermore, the estimated discrimination component is systematically related to attributes of occupations. It tends to decline with the rise in proportion of women and with socioeconomic status and percent salaried workers in the occupational market. The meaning of the findings and their relevance are discussed.
