Emotional Intelligence and Leadership

The aim of this study was to conduct a literature review that would determine trends regarding research on Emotional Intelligence, to identify possible research gaps and the most important investigative directions and as a basis for a research project on the possible application of EI in the Business field.. The Literature review was performed using the Google Scholar. The search was conducted for the term "emotional intelligence" and for the period 2000-2016, which allowed preparing a database with 1000 references. Regarding the relationship between EI and Leadership 25 articles on this subject were found of which a very low number implemented models using quantitative methods that allow to analyze relations between Leadership and EI and the possible effect of moderating or mediating variables in this relationship. It became clear that most studies have been conducted in the United States, Europe and Asia. A key aspect of research in EI is the selection, validation and optionally the adaptation of an instrument for measuring it. Of all documents reviewed most were related to analyze the possible role of EI in Education and most of them hold an empirical character.
