摘要
The previous development of epidemiology in the German veterinary medicine is described. An institute of epizootiology and control of animal diseases was established in 1985 and its tasks are described. A concept for the further development of epidemiology includes control of animal diseases, preventive veterinary medicine and protection of the environment and consumer. Epidemiology is defined as an area of integration of various specialised disciplines. The combination of epidemiological and economic investigations is necessary.
