MICRO-HYDRO IN SAO-TOME

Sao Tome is situated 200 miles off the west coast of Gabon. Cocoa farms abound on the island. The project undertaken was to consider the possibilities for generating hydropower in small schemes on four cocoa farms in the south of the country. This Paper details the stages of the investigation, including hydrological analysis, flow measurement, design elements and funding opportunities. Together with technical information, the Paper considers the developmental aspects of the schemes and their socioeconomic implications.
