Aim. To determine in a group of university students, the factors related to their risk level of alcohol consumption. Materials and methods. Cross-sectional study to determine factors that influence the risk level of alcohol in university students. A survey was structured (AUDIT) to 221 students chosen for convenience. Logistic regression was performed to determine the risk factors associated with alcohol consumption, we used SPSS version 15.0. Results. In general, students had a low risk for consumption or withdrawal and expressed mainly consumed to combat idleness, 65.5% of the students present level of alcohol consumption risk in zone I, ie consumption low risk or withdrawal is necessary and only an education intervention. To be a man, the high frequency of smoking, the number of people living at home who use alcohol and grade point averages, fail to account for 39.4% of the variability of the probability of high risk for alcohol, 60.6% is explained by variables not included in the model or by chance. Conclusions. Being a man, the daily frequency of smoking and live with people who consume alcohol increase the risk of developing a high level of alcohol consumption, while having a high scholastic average decreases risk.
