INVESTIGATIONS ON THE IMAGE QUALITY OF PHOTOGRAPHIC MATERIALS

摘要
The concept of objective image quality, being based on the exact measurement of the characteristic curve, the modulation transfer function, and the WIENER spectrum of noise, was successfully applied to a great variety of silver halide and non-silver image recording materials. Comparing the measured data with special analytical expressions for the corresponding theoretical problem, we were able to identify the major causes of image spreading and noise. The efficiency analysis, we proposed in this connection, seems to evaluate the contributions very realistically, and is expected to throw light into actual topics of discussion concerning the new principles of crystal and film design.
