AN APPROACH TO MAKING THESAURI IN INFORMATION-SYSTEMS DYNAMIC

This paper presents an approach to improve document based information systems using Artificial Intelligence techniques. The basic element of the system is a dynamic thesaurus, which is adapted to a specific group of documents. Generation and maintenance of this thesaurus are (partially) automated by means of a knowledge acquisition tool, that uses both, analysis of documents and user knowledge. This requires an extended thesaurus concept, which defines the thesaurus as a data structure for knowledge representation. A Graphical User Interface (GUI) makes the thesaurus easily accesible for the user.
