Most systemic diseases have the potential for ocular involvement; however, the attending veterinarian must examine the eyes to identify the ocular manifestations. Certain disorders can localize within the eyes and cause blindness, whereas others cause nondistinct inflammatory reactions. Nevertheless, recognition and prompt treatment can reduce ocular morbidity and preserve vision for many patients. Several known diseases and the ocular reactions are described in this article. © 1992 W.B. Saunders Company
