INHERITANCE OF ALLOZYMES IN ATLANTIC SALMON (SALMO-SALAR L)

Progeny from single-pair matings of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) were examined to determine the heritability of observed electrophoretic variation at seven polymorphic enzyme loci. Mendelian inheritance of codominant autosomal alleles was established for Aat-3, Idh-3, Mdh-3,4, mMe-2, Pgi-3 and Sdh-1,2 loci. Polymorphism observed at the Pgm-2 locus did not conform to any known genetic model. This determination of the genetic basis of several common polymorphisms enhances our ability to interpret observed allozyme variation in this species. © 1990.
